ceven knowles
visual artist _ video producer _ musician
Born and raised running the streets of New Orleans and Chicago, Ceven Knowles moved to Germany in 2004 and has since lived and worked in Berlin. Inspired from the early house music and club scenes, the writings of William S. Burroughs and music of Coil he built a reputation within the American underground best known for being one of the first live web-cam artists and internet-video provocateurs in the south and midwest during the 1990's to early 2000's. In 2006 he produced the popular internet variety show “Anderecast” before creating the production company “Unbekanntes Sektorformat”.
Presently, Ceven's audio and visual works fluctuate between exploring and compositing layers of organic algorithms, metaphysics, psychoanalytical association, nature, and spirituality as language as can be seen in his 3-part audio-visual sonata “Hinausgehen”, in his experimental electronic music project Nevec Red which released its first album “Uncertain Equinox”, and with his freeform jazz project Nåls. As a collaborative platform to showcase photography, music, and video art he co-grounded CERUSmedia in 2011.
For the Opiates live shows Ceven approached the video works as coming 'full circle' back to his roots paying homage to his earliest visual inspirations: Derek Jarman, the videos of Cabaret Voltaire, David Lynch, David Cronenberg, 1980's music video, and postmodernist video art to which he was exposed to heavily.

I could not have asked for a better visual artist to become part of this. He's just amazing.
